The purpose of the York Volunteer Firemen's Relief Association is to provide a fund, as well as protective equipment for the use and benefit of its members, who may become disabled while in the fire service, or who may die or be killed, and for the designated beneficiary or estate. The Relief Association shall have full power to hold personal property and real estate, with power to invest all surplus funds not required for the maintenance of the organization in accordance with Act 118 of 2010.
A person can become a member of the Relief Association between the ages of 18 years and 55 years. To be eligible for membership, the applicant must be in good health, an ACTIVE member of a fire company operated by the York Fire Department, must have been an active member of said company for at least 12 months, and reside within approximately a 15-mile radius of the City of York, Pennsylvania.
Upon the death of a member in good standing of the Relief Association, the Relief Association shall pay a death benefit to the beneficiary designated by such member in writing and on a form prescribed by the Association. A member may change designation of such beneficiary; such change to be in writing on the form prescribed by the Association and shall not be effective until received by the Association. In the event a member shall fail to designate a beneficiary or the designated beneficiary has predeceased the member, then said sum shall be paid to the estate of the deceased member.
